We have regular fostering forums to allow our foster parents to come together and share good practice whilst also learning new skills to develop themselves. In our November foster parent forum we organised training for our foster parents on attachment methods.
Attached methods are all about knowing how develop close relationships with children which may sometimes be difficult when fostering.
The training was delivered by Suriya Nayak. Suriya is a senior lecturer in social work at the University of Salford. She has 30 years’ experience of working in the Rape Crisis Movement, community engagement across a diverse range of peoples positioned as alienated using models of education as liberation, and the activism of Black feminism to raise consciousness about the psychological and political impact of oppressive social constructions.
Our foster parents really enjoyed the training and gave some really positive feedback. One parent said ‘I have learned some really simple and practical skills which I will start to incorporate into the care that I am providing my foster child’
