The Fostering Excellence Awards are the UK’s most prestigious foster care awards. They serve as a platform to celebrate the remarkable achievements and contributions made to the fostering community. We had the pleasure of attending this year’s awards in Birmingham on Tuesday 17th October after hearing one of the young people in our care was a finalist.

The Olive Branch team were so proud when he won the Fostering Network Award for Young People. This was in recognition of the fantastic work he’d done with the Prince’s Trust. The Prince’s Trust said: “He is an absolute pleasure to work with. His enthusiasm, commitment and time keeping are impeccable. He is the first person to notice and support other members of the team and gives his absolute everything to every task he undertakes.”

On behalf of the entire Olive Branch team, we extend our warmest congratulations to this young person for winning the Fostering Excellence Award and we look forward to the amazing things he will achieve in the future.

Mike Canning, Supervising Social Worker at Olive Branch, said: “The Fostering Excellence Awards was a fantastic event recognising all different kinds of people, teams and organisations involved in foster care. Our young person was so proud to participate and to be recognised. It was a very emotional day - some of the stories had me reaching for the Kleenex!”

The Fostering Network’s Sarah Thomas said: "The fostering community is truly a special one and all our winners, and everyone else involved in fostering in the UK should be incredibly proud of their contributions to foster care.

"With more than 7,000 fostering families needed in the UK, it’s vital that we get more exceptional foster carers on board to provide stable homes for children and young people."
